Tom McCarthy interviews
I'm only halfway through Part Two right now. Great, great stuff, although he has yet to mention anything about the INS declaration on inauthenticity back in September. (Is there any transcript of this online?)He's talking re-enactments and patterns all of the way back to Don Quixote. It was a little jarring to hear him declare Warhol a greater artist than Michelangelo, but why the hell shouldn't he?
Lots of talk about Ballard too, and i admit that i have yet to read anything by him.
Oh yeah... part one of the interview and part two.

I tried his novel--didn't care for it, even with a device I like, the unreliable narrator.
McCarthy's got a really wild website. It's not under his name though. It's really crazy--yards of stuff about the role of the artist, but really far out.
When i first read Remainder, i was disappointed. However, it's stuck with me, unlike a number of other books that i've read this year. The sense of his intent means as much to me as the actual text at this point, as this "authenticity" theme has been cropping up everywhere it seems.
